Jaguar physical key (also called the emergency key blade or mechanical key) is the thin metal key that is stored inside a Jaguar key shell. It provides manual access to the vehicle when the electronic remote functions fail (e.g., dead battery).
What it is
A small, flat metal blade inside a key shell
It is not used to start modern Jaguar vehicles. Starting relies on the electronic transponder in the fob.
How it works on modern Jaguars
Insert the blade into the slot, remove the cover, then turn the blade to unlock the door
Key shell vs. physical key
The key shell is the outer plastic/chrome housing of the fob.
The physical key is specifically the metal blade stored inside that shell.
Replacement shells and emergency blades are widely available aftermarket. The blade usually needs to be cut by a locksmith to match your vehicle’s locks.
