Dovyalis caffra is a spiny, attractive, evergreen shrub or small tree growing up to 9 metres tall with a many-branched, dense crown.
The plant is widely grown in warm temperate to tropical gardens around the world as a hedge plant. It make a superior live fence because it has thorns which can deter both human and livestock into the fenced area.
