It burns kerosene, drawn up through a wick by capillary action, to produce light.
Kerosene lanterns were widely used for lighting from the 1860s until the development of electric lighting.
They are still used today as a dependable light source during power outages, for camping, or as a decorative item.
The lamp's brightness can be adjusted by raising or lowering the wick using a knob.
The glass chimney prevents the flame from being blown out and enhances the draft for a brighter flame.
